We tested 6 Indic-language AI tools on a standardised set of 50 prompts in Hindi, Tamil, and Bangla — covering transliteration, generation, summarisation, and translation. The results are uneven and worth knowing before you commit to one.
Sarvam-1 leads on Hindi quality and Mumbai latency. Krutrim leads on language coverage breadth. Bhashini leads on government-context translation. Llama 4 fine-tunes lead on cost. None lead on all three. The right answer for most Indian product teams is two tools, not one.
